We’ve said many times bed bugs (Cimex lectularius) are often found where people frequently come-and-go. The Kansas City Airport recently reported a bed bug infestation in a sitting area next to a restaurant serving location. The area was closed for cleaning before being reopened.
The article also discusses an interesting service in the Frankfurt, Germany airport. They have teams of bed bug sniffing dogs who can be hiring to search luggage. If a bed bug is found in a passenger’s luggage, the passenger can hire a bed bug extermination service in the airport so the bed bugs aren’t transferred to the passenger’s home.
These stories remind us that bed bugs are great hitchhikers and can be found almost any place frequented by humans. It is important to keep on the lookout for possible bed bug signs and treat for bed bugs immediately before an infestation gets too big. Check out our Bed Bug FAQs for more information about signs of bed bug infestations.
