BedBug Central reported the freezing winter temperatures appear to have slowed down the spread of bed bugs (Cimex lectularius) for the season. Even though bed bug activity was down across the United States, our midwest region showed the second-largest regional increase in bed bug activity. It is believed that as temperatures warm across the United States, bed bug activity will increase. Part of that increase could be due to people traveling more during the summer months as well as the temperature increasing.
Bed bugs will travel with humans whether it is in a suitcase or under a jacket. They aren’t spreading through the environment alone, so remember as your travel plans pick up to continue checking for signs of bed bugs in both hotels you stay at as well as in your home when you return from traveling. Check out our Bed Bug FAQs for more information about signs of bed bug infestations.
